This device allows students to observe magnetic fields in the three as well as two dimensions. It consists of two half hexagonal acrylic containers with metal filings. The two parts, connected with hinges, can be swung open or closed. A strong bar magnet is placed in the concavities of the containers to reveal the cross section of a magnetic field.
